Doug Sharkey

Doug Sharkey brings a distinctive combination of backgrounds to his work as ID.ology’s Cabinetry Department Manager: music, construction, and cabinetry all shape the way he approaches design. A BA in Music Performance from Illinois State University built his creative foundation, while an MA in Sustainable Development from Appalachian State University sparked a lasting commitment to building in ways that are better for people and the planet.

It’s an unusual path into cabinetry, but one that gave Doug a distinct advantage: an ear for detail and proportion honed through music, paired with a genuine, deeply held belief in building responsibly.

Sustainability as a Core Value

With over 17 years in construction, Doug has spent much of his career championing sustainable building practices and energy efficient solutions. He believes strongly that homes should work in harmony with the natural world, not against it, a philosophy that lines up closely with ID.ology’s own focus on wellness forward, non toxic materials.

His WWYW certification is a natural extension of that belief, one more way Doug ensures that the materials and methods used in ID.ology’s cabinetry work support both the health of the people living in a home and the health of the environment around it.

For the past seven years, Doug has focused specifically on cabinetry, drawn to the balance between function and beauty the work requires. He finds real satisfaction in taking something purely utilitarian and turning it into a well crafted, thoughtful piece that fits seamlessly into a larger design.

That satisfaction comes through in the details, the fit of a drawer, the finish of a door front, the way a custom piece is built to last for decades rather than years. For Doug, cabinetry is one of the few places in a home where craftsmanship is both seen and used every single day.
