Asheville Interior Design

A home that starts with you.

Award-Winning Interior Design Since 2012

You have a vision. Maybe it’s a new home in the mountains. Maybe it’s finally reworking the one you already live in. Either way, you need a designer who can see the big picture, challenge the obvious choices, and help turn your ideas into a home that feels unmistakably yours.

Since 2012, our award-winning Asheville interior designers have helped homeowners shape new builds and renovations, through expertise and fresh ideas they may not have considered. We think through the flow, architecture, and details that make a home work

Full-Service Interior Design for Asheville's Mountain Communities

From contemporary mountain retreats to traditional homes, every project starts with an idea of what your home could be.

Maybe it’s a mudroom designed for busy mornings, with plenty of room for coats, boots, and backpacks so they don’t spill into the rest of the house. Or a spacious primary bathroom where two people can get ready without bumping into each other. Perhaps it’s the vaulted living room with a cozy fireplace, made for quiet evenings and weekends when everyone stays a little longer than planned.

Our interior and architectural designers work with you to turn those ideas into a home that feels personal from the start.

Healthy Homes, Designed with Purpose

Beautiful design can support a healthier home, too. We consider indoor air quality, lower-emission materials, natural light, and stronger connections to the outdoors, making healthier choices part of the design from the beginning rather than an afterthought.

One Design Team, One Vision

Our designers work together from the start, so the details on paper carry through to the final build. We work closely with your builder throughout construction to answer questions, resolve details, and keep the original design intact.

Our Interior Design Process

1. Discovery + Planning

We start with your goals, priorities, budget, timeline, and property. Our team looks at what the home needs to do better and begins shaping the overall direction of the project.

2. Design Development

This is where the ideas start to feel real. Through floor plans, elevations, and 3D visualizations, you can begin to see how the home will take shape before construction starts, giving you the chance to refine the design.

3. Materials & Selections

This is where the fun starts. With the plans in place, we move into the details that give your home its personality, from flooring and cabinetry to fixtures, finishes, and paint. We help you narrow the options so every choice feels intentional, balancing aesthetics with function, durability, and healthier material options where appropriate.

4. Construction

Once construction begins, our team stays involved. We work with your builder to answer questions and help carry the approved vision through the build.

The People + Principles Behind Your Home

Your Design Team

Our award-winning designers bring more than a good eye to the table. They know how to see the whole home at once.

Our Design Standards

Our core design principles help guide the choices we make to support your comfort, wellbeing, and quality of life.

Home Design

Biophilic Design

Biophilic design is about creating a stronger connection between your home and the natural world.

That can mean bringing in more daylight with expansive windows, framing outdoor views, using natural materials like wood and wool, introducing organic textures, or creating easier transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Indoor Air Quality

Today’s homes are built tighter and more airtight, which is great for energy efficiency but also means there is less natural air exchange.

That makes the materials brought into the home more important. Upholstery, adhesives, stains, finishes, cabinetry, and other products can release chemicals into the indoor air over time.

We help you consider lower-emission and responsibly sourced options where possible, so your home can be energy efficient.

Aging-in-Place

A well-designed home should continue to work for you as your needs change.

Small decisions made early, like wider pathways, comfortable seating heights, better circulation, and fewer trip hazards, can make the home easier to move through and more comfortable to live in over time.

We consider these details from the beginning, so accessibility feels like a natural part of the home.

Stories From the Clients We’ve Designed For

Feedback from Mark Achtemeier about Laura K. Sullivan

We had a great experience working with Laura and her team at IDology. We were doing extensive renovations on a house from 800 miles away, which meant we couldn’t be quite as hands on with the project as we would be with one done locally. The IDology team was flexible and wonderful in accommodating our special situation and working in tandem with our contractor. Their communication was excellent, their ideas and suggestions were fabulous, and we couldn’t be more happy with the results. Highly recommended!

Feedback from Christine Dowd about Laura K. Sullivan

“This house is absolutely amazing. It is everything I ever wanted in a home.”
“Everything is done to perfection. Everything from the door moldings to the painting to the flooring.”

Feedback from H. Wells about Laura K. Sullivan and ID.ology

“ID.ology has been great at meeting our needs and staying on the budget. We appreciate that. It makes it easier for us to splurge on some things, when we know others will be good choices at budget. Can’t tell you how pleased we are about the closets and mud room. Also with cabinets. This allowed us to spurge on kitchen appliances which will be so worth it for us!”

Feedback from D. Whalen about Laura K. Sullivan and ID.ology

“Thank you for your time and design guidance today. I always feel that I’m in good hands with all of you at ID.ology. I had fun at Cisco and you’ve exceeded my already high expectations.”

Why Choose a Local Interior Designer in Asheville

Because our team is based here in Asheville, we understand the area. We work with local builders, trades, and suppliers, which makes it easier to solve problems, source the right pieces, and keep decisions moving when construction is underway.

From our studio on Sweeten Creek Road, ID.ology serves Asheville, Hendersonville, Black Mountain, Biltmore Forest, The Cliffs, Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, and surrounding mountain communities.
