Asheville Custom Homes, Designed Around You.

Build the home you’ve been imagining.

Award-Winning Interior Design Since 2012

A custom home gives you the chance to make decisions from the ground up. An oversized laundry room with a sink. Higher ceilings in the living room. A pantry big enough for the holiday dishes and air fryer. Floor outlets exactly where you need them for the power sofa.

With a designer involved early, practical decisions can sit alongside the bigger ones, like where the morning light hits the kitchen or how the living room opens to the view.

Since 2012, ID.ology Interiors + Design has helped homeowners throughout Asheville and Western North Carolina shape their custom homes from the earliest plans. Our interior and architectural designers work together to turn those ideas into one complete vision. The goal is not simply to build a house. It is to create a home that feels personal, beautiful, and designed around your lifestyle.

Custom Homes: From the Big Picture to the Smallest Detail

A great custom home is more than a collection of beautiful rooms.

The spaces should flow together. The windows should make the most of the property. Storage should show up exactly where you need it. And the kitchen should work just as well on a Tuesday morning as it does with a house full of family.

Our job is to see those connections early. We work alongside you and your builder to make sure the big ideas and the smallest details all belong to the same home.

Healthier Choices From the Start

Building new gives you the opportunity to think about what goes into your home before construction begins. Our design standards consider indoor air quality, biophilic design, lower-emission and responsibly sourced materials, and Aging-in-Place principles where appropriate.

One Team, One Home

We work closely with our sister company, Living Stone Design + Build, or your builder of choice, providing the drawings, specifications, and design direction needed to carry the vision through construction.

Our Asheville Custom Home Design Process

1. Discovery

We start with the property and the home you’ve been imagining. We’ll talk through your priorities, budget, timeline, must-haves, and the things you do not want to compromise on.

Maybe that’s a kitchen built for entertaining, a private primary suite, a hard-working mudroom, space for aging parents, or windows positioned around a mountain view.

Those priorities become the foundation for the design.

2. See the Home Take Shape.

This is where your ideas start to take shape.

We’ll walk you through the floor plans, elevations, and 3D visualizations so you can see how the home will come together before construction begins. This is your opportunity to refine the design, ask questions, and make changes while there is still flexibility to do so.

3. Interior Selections

Once the plans are in place, this is where the fun starts.

Think mood boards, flooring samples, cabinetry finishes, and the materials that begin to give each space its character. We guide you through the selections with beauty in mind while also considering durability, function, maintenance, and healthier options where they make sense.

4. Construction

Our involvement does not stop when construction starts.

We stay connected with your builder to answer questions, clarify drawings and specifications, and help make sure the design you approved is the home that gets built.

The People + Principles Behind Your Home

Your Design Team

You’ll work with a team of interior and architectural designers who look beyond their individual disciplines to understand how the whole home fits together.

Our Design Standards

Our core design principles help guide the choices we make to support your comfort, wellbeing, and quality of life.
Home Design

Biophilic Design

Building custom gives you the chance to connect the home to its setting from the very beginning.

That can mean orienting rooms toward the best views, placing windows to capture morning light, creating stronger indoor-outdoor connections, or using natural materials that echo the landscape around the home.

In Asheville, where the mountains are often part of why people choose the property in the first place, those decisions can shape the entire design.

Indoor Air Quality

New homes are built tighter and more energy efficient than ever, which means the materials used inside them matter more.

Paints, stains, cabinetry, adhesives, finishes, and furnishings can all affect indoor air quality. Because these choices are being made from scratch, we can help you explore lower-VOC, lower-emission, natural, and responsibly sourced options before they are built into the home.

Aging-in-Place

A custom home is an opportunity to think beyond what you need today.

Using Certified Aging-in-Place principles, we can consider things like wider pathways, easier transitions, accessible storage, and layouts that remain comfortable as your needs change.

The goal is not to make the home feel accessible. It is to make smart decisions now that may help it keep working for you years from now

Stories From the Clients We’ve Designed For

Feedback from Mark Achtemeier about Laura K. Sullivan

We had a great experience working with Laura and her team at IDology. We were doing extensive renovations on a house from 800 miles away, which meant we couldn’t be quite as hands on with the project as we would be with one done locally. The IDology team was flexible and wonderful in accommodating our special situation and working in tandem with our contractor. Their communication was excellent, their ideas and suggestions were fabulous, and we couldn’t be more happy with the results. Highly recommended!

Feedback from Christine Dowd about Laura K. Sullivan

“This house is absolutely amazing. It is everything I ever wanted in a home.”
“Everything is done to perfection. Everything from the door moldings to the painting to the flooring.”

Feedback from H. Wells about Laura K. Sullivan and ID.ology

“ID.ology has been great at meeting our needs and staying on the budget. We appreciate that. It makes it easier for us to splurge on some things, when we know others will be good choices at budget. Can’t tell you how pleased we are about the closets and mud room. Also with cabinets. This allowed us to spurge on kitchen appliances which will be so worth it for us!”

Feedback from D. Whalen about Laura K. Sullivan and ID.ology

“Thank you for your time and design guidance today. I always feel that I’m in good hands with all of you at ID.ology. I had fun at Cisco and you’ve exceeded my already high expectations.”

Feedback about cooperation with Laura K. Sullivan

Thank you!”
